Open House FAQs

When does Open House take place?

The LSU Vet Med Open House typically takes place each year in late January or early February from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. on a Saturday.

Where do I park?

Parking is available across the street from the veterinary school. You may not park in the lot adjacent to the Stephenson Pet Clinic, as that is reserved for hospital clients. We take in emergency cases after hours and on weekends, so this lot needs to stay open for those pet owners.

Why don’t you have the Fistulated Cow, the Equine Treadmill, and the Equine Parade of Breeds this year?

The LSU Vet Med barn is currently under construction, so we are unable to have all of our usual large animal exhibits this year. If construction stays on schedule, we should have them back next year.

Will food be available for purchase?

LSU Dining will be selling food outside the building. There are also vending machines on the first floor near the courtyard and our dining hall.

LSU Dining will only accept cash, but there is an ATM in the dining hall, which is noted on the Open House map.

Will the raptors be on display all day?

Raptors will be out from 9 to 11 a.m. and 12 to 3 p.m. We are resting the birds from 11 a.m. to 12 p.m. These times may vary depending on the birds' needs.

When are the animal demonstrations?

Front Lawn

Canine Parade of Breeds at 9:30 a.m. and 12:30 p.m.

Baton Rouge Police K-9 Demo at 12 p.m.

Stephenson Pet Clinic

Underwater Treadmill Demos at 9, 9:30, 10, 10:30, 11, 11:30, 12, 12:30, 1, 1:30, 2, 2:30

Is the hospital open today?

Our hospital is open 24/7, 365 days a year. We see emergency cases after hours and on weekends. This is why we limit access to the hospital during Open House.

I am interested in attending veterinary school in the future. Is there someone at Open House I can talk to about that?

Our Office of Admissions and Student Success has a table at Open House so you can ask questions about admissions and the curriculum. There is also an "Ask a Vet Student" table where our students will also be on hand to answer questions about the veterinary school experience.

I work with a group that would like to participate in Open House next year. Who do I talk to about that?
