Student Scholarships
Edward Henderson Scholarship in Philosophy and Religious Studies
Open to current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors with Philosophy or Religious Studies majors with a GPA greater than or equal to 3.0. Enrollment in the Honors College is preferred.
Edward Shirley Scholarship in Philosophy
A Philosophy essay contest open to current freshmen, sophomores, and juniors or graduate students majoring in Philosophy.
John H. Whittaker Award in Philosophy and Religious Studies
Open to full-time sophomores or juniors majoring in Religious Studies with a record of academic excellence, especially in Religious Studies courses. The application for this award requires a written reflection on the benefits of studying religion academically, unofficial transcripts, and two letters of support from Religious Studies faculty.
Lange-Button-King Scholarship
Open to full-time juniors or seniors majoring in Religious Studies. Applicants should demonstrate aptitude in both Religious Studies and the social or natural sciences.
Scholarly Funds
Bigger Lecture Support Fund
Supports lectures by teacher-scholars who are devoted to liberal learning. The fund provides transportation, lodging, hospitality, and/or honoraria for the lecturer.
Deborah East Eley Memorial Fund
Provides general support for the Department of Philosophy and Religious Studies teaching and research labs, including but not limited to equipment and materials, student research and experiential opportunities, and guest lecturers.
Religious Studies Visiting Scholar Fund
Supports visiting scholars in the field of Religious Studies. Scholars giving a lecture, addressing a class, or making a presentation at a conference hosted by LSU are eligible for support.
William James Fund
Supports scholarly activities in the field of parapsychology. Activities may include honoraria for lectures on topics related to parapsychology, sponsorship of symposia, funds for books, and funds for travel for faculty involved in parapsychological research.
